George E. Hilt, Jr.

George Edward Hilt, Jr., of Mount Laurel, formerly of Maple Shade, passed away at his home on May 29, 2022. Born in Philadelphia to the late George and Hortense “Pat” (Dahis) Hilt Sr., he was 79 years old.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Irene (nee Kraenbring); his brothers, Gerald Hilt (Diane) and Edward Hilt (Dottie); nephews Edward Hilt (Christine), Jackson Hilt, Austin Castanon, and Benjamin Hilt; his nieces, Julie Hilt, Jessica Castanon (Aldo), Elise Hilt, and Hannah Castanon; his cousins Darla Barrett (John), Jara Barrett, and Justin Barrett (Lindsey). George was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne C. Dempsey.

George graduated from Moorestown High School in 1961. He excelled in basketball and baseball, and won both championships in 1961. He was a United States Army Veteran. George was a member of the Burlington County Club for over 40 years. He was the owner of the Pirate’s Inn (Mt. Laurel), Settler’s Inn (Medford), and Dillinger’s (Maple Shade). George and Irene were members of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Maple Shade.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Maple Shade, 600 East Main St., on Monday, June 6th, from 10 am to 11 am, where his prayer service will begin at 11 am. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park, Route 130 N. in Cinnaminson.

William H. (Bill) Laubenstein, III

George was a strong quiet presence and a great friend.  We shared many hours together, most memorably on the baseball team, George at first base catching my not always accurate throws from shorstop.  He was our leading hitter, a silent leader.
