            Halfway down the stairs               Halfway up the stairs     

            is a stair.                                     isn’t up and

            where I sit.                                  it isn’t down.

 

            There isn’t any                            It isn’t in the nursery.

            other stair quite like it.                 It isn’t in the town.  

 

            I’m not at the bottom,                   And all sorts of funny

            I’m not at the top;                         thoughts

            so this is the stair where                run round my head.      

            I always stop.                                                               

                                              It isn’t really anywhere!

                                                It’s somewhere else

                                                         instead!
